Challenge
Tablet coating quality depends on spray rate, pan speed, air temperature and process time. The machine needed precise control of each, settings for each formulation, and the visibility and records that pharmaceutical production requires.
Solution
Operators now follow the whole coater on one SCADA overview: exhaust, coating drum, coating-solution tank and air handling unit. The screen shows the speeds of the variable-speed fans and drum, damper positions, inlet and outlet temperatures and cycle time. A Siemens S7-1200 PLC runs the machine, with WinCC Professional as the SCADA.
Operators select a recipe for each formulation, log in with a user name, and see an alarm list with date, time and duration.
Scope of work
- Siemens S7-1200 PLC programming
- WinCC Professional SCADA
- Control of spray rate, pan speed, temperature and process time
- Variable-speed control of drum, blower, exhaust and air handling unit
- Inlet, outlet and bypass damper positioning
- Recipes for each formulation
- User log-in and alarm history
Result
Each formulation runs from its own recipe, operators log in with a user name, and every alarm is listed with its date, time and duration for the plant's records.
