Bottle printing machine: control upgrade with motion control

We replaced the controls of a legacy bottle printing machine with a PLC and motion-control system, to improve accuracy and reliability without replacing the machine.

Watch the machine running

The bottle printing machine after the control upgradeClear bottles are fed along the conveyor and held on rollers. Each bottle turns under the printing screen while it is printed, then the printed bottles pass under a green light into a crate. The clip ends with a close-up of a printed bottle.

Challenge

A legacy machine that prints pharmaceutical and cosmetic bottles needed better printing accuracy, higher reliability and better production efficiency. The owner wanted to keep the existing machine and extend its service life.

Solution

We upgraded the complete control system to a PLC with motion control. We programmed and synchronized the machine motion so that each bottle is positioned precisely for printing. We also reworked the control logic and operating sequence, and tuned the motion parameters for fast and accurate operation.

All field devices and control signals were tested before commissioning under real operating conditions.

Scope of work

  • Complete control-system upgrade to PLC and motion control
  • Motion programming and synchronization for bottle positioning and printing
  • New control logic and operating sequence
  • Motion tuning for speed and accuracy
  • I/O testing of all field devices and control signals
  • Testing and commissioning under real operating conditions

Result

The machine stays in production instead of being replaced. Each bottle is now positioned for printing by synchronized motion control, and the machine runs on a new control logic and operating sequence.
